Onboarding External Services to ENVRI-Hub NEXT
Welcome to the ENVRI-Hub NEXT integration portal. We are currently expanding our ecosystem to foster multidisciplinary research and enhance the value chain of environmental data across Europe.
Current Status: Strategic Planning Phase
The Onboarding Group is currently defining the strategic guidelines and technical requirements for external service integration.
- Please Note: The final requirement list and formal application procedures are not yet fixed.
- Action: We appreciate your patience as we refine these standards. If you are interested in onboarding a service, you can announce your interest or ask questions by emailing us at: envri-hub-next-po@mailman.egi.eu.
Governance & Vision
The onboarding process is governed by a multi-layered structure involving the General Assembly, Executive Board, and the Onboarding Group (as seen in our organizational chart below).
Our goal is to align with the ENVRI-Hub NEXT Vision and EOSC Goals. We focus on:
- Multidisciplinary Element: Services that advance research across at least one of the four environmental domains.
- Strategic Alignment: Fostering climate change mitigation and adaptation.
- Sustainability: Ensuring long-term viability and clear data ownership/access rights.
- EOSC Compatibility: While being part of ENVRI does not mandate an EOSC commitment, we prioritize compatibility with EOSC rules and will clearly flag EOSC-compliant services.
What We Are Looking for
We seek to onboard services that complement our existing portfolio and enhance cooperation between Research Infrastructures (RIs).
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Relevance | Must be relevant to environmental research domains. |
| Interoperability | Services must be made interoperable with the Hub’s framework. |
| Scientific Value | Contribution to Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and high-quality data. |
| Synergy | Preference for services that complement rather than redundantly compete with the current portfolio. |
Special Welcome for OSCARS Project
We extend a warm welcome to projects funded through the OSCARS (Open Science Clusters’ Action for Research and Society) cascading grants. As these projects are designed to strengthen the Open Science cloud through community-driven initiatives, we recognize them as key contributors to the ENVRI-Hub as the competence center for the ENVRI community . If you are leading an OSCARS project within the environmental domain, we invite you to start the dialogue early. We are committed to providing a pathway for your outputs to be integrated into the Hub, ensuring your developments achieve maximum impact and long-term sustainability within the ENVRI RI cluster.
Technical Requirements
To ensure seamless integration into the Hub, candidate services will eventually need to meet several technical benchmarks:
- Metadata & Vocabularies: Adoption of harmonized standards compatible with the ENVRI Data and Services Catalogue.
- API Compliance: Functionalities must be exposed via APIs compatible with ENVRI-Hub NEXT interfaces.
- Authentication (AAI): Integration with ENVRI-ID, leveraging federated identity management.
- Reproducibility: Use of reusable analytical workflows (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks).
- Quality Assurance: Implementation of monitoring tools to ensure reliability and SLA compliance.
Benefits of Joining
By onboarding your service to ENVRI-Hub NEXT, you gain access to:
- Increased Visibility: Exposure to the wider scientific user community and the ENVRI cluster.
- Expert Support: Access to the ENVRI Knowledge Base, Training Gateway, and technical documentation.
- EOSC Integration: A pathway to validate your service against EOSC Interoperability Guidelines.
- Collaborative working environment: Opportunities for co-funding or in-kind contribution models for long-term integration.
